Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is debatably the best installment of the FNAF series. It left fans both terrified and intrigued. Though there were many questions that this particular installment kicked up, there was one that fans wanted answered more than any; What's in the box?
Any fan of the FNAF series knows that Scott likes to hide bits and pieces of his story throughout the game. From playthroughs to sifting through coding, even having to dim or brighten still pictures he releases, this has been an aspect of the series that fans love.
But no one was ever able to figure out what was in the box, neither through legitimately playing the game nor going into the coding to look for the answer. On the subject, Cawthon said, "What's in the box? It's the pieces put together. [...] I've decided that maybe some things are best left forgotten, forever." Enough of the mystery, though, right?
In this installment, you play as a scared child haunted by the Fazbear robots. You're not safe even in your home. The mechanics are quite similar to past installments, but you must guard your closet, both doors, and under your bed. A few easter eggs and hints are laced throughout the game, though as previously stated the overall mystery was never solved.
Though not the last installment of the series, it is widely considered to be the scariest and most tragic. We finally get to know more about The Bite of '87 (or 83).
If you like to follow fan speculation and enjoy unraveling the mystery of the FNAF stories then I can't recommend this game highly enough.
