Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is a horror-based mobile game that represents the fourth title in the series. The object of the game is quite simple, but it is also exceptionally scary. The player controls a small child with a flashlight for a weapon, and the goal is to survive against a series of horrifying monsters that include Freddy Fazbear, Foxy, Chica, Bonnie, and several others hiding throughout the house.

The game itself is filled with tons of jump-scares, and it is primarily controlled through point-and-click action. Anyone can play the game, although it might be a bit scary for younger players.

This release is a lot like the other games in the series, but it has been updated with several changes. Older versions had complicated systems that had to be watched and maintained in order to control the onslaught of monsters, and these included everything from security gates to surveillance cameras. This game is much simpler since the player only has to focus on a few elements, which include the bed, the two doors to the bedroom, and the closet. The player must survive in the dark bedroom without allowing the monsters to reach the child.

This is a game that can't really be played without listening to the audio since the monsters give clues about their approach that can't be seen. Players must listen closely to hear movement, breathing, and doors closing. The flashlight acts as a weapon that protects the player from monsters that get too close, but the visualization of a monster that is right about to get you before you illuminate it is quite intense.

The story behind the game is a bit boring, but it at least adds an element of urgency to the gameplay. The character you control is a boy who is only five days away from his birthday, but he must survive those five nights in the monster-filled house before he can celebrate. The first two nights aren't too difficult to survive since the game wants to let the player learn the finer points of the gameplay. Of course, after those first two nights, the game picks up in intensity and scares.

One of the complaints with older games in this series is that they repeat the jump-scares over and over, but this game has grown past that limitation. Each monster has its own unique scare-tactics, and those are highly varied for each monster as well. Perhaps the only disappointing aspect of the game in terms of variety is that the player always stays in his bedroom, so the scene doesn't change.

It is unlikely that this will be the last game in the series since the developer has already described the game as the last of the original story. That heavily implies there are more stories to tell in this genre of jump-scare game, so hopefully the future will bring more variety to the scares and more in-depth stories.
